Retold from the original Vietnamese folk fairytale Tam Cam, Tam Cam the Musical will surely bring warmth and love to the Vietnamese audience as the show goes completely Broadway. All of the songs are written by Khac Duy Nguyen, who’s also the director of the play.
Tam Cam is considered to be the Vietnamese version of Cinderella; Tam’s father unfortunately dies due to his sickness. However during his life on earth, he re-married to another woman, who happens to be Tam’s stepmother with her daughter, Cam – Tam’s stepsister After Tam’s father’s death, she’s entitled to house chores as her stepmother forces her to accomplish. Then the rest, you can tell with the original Cinderella, but there will be even more twists to this version.
Khac Duy Nguyen had already premiered the show in celebration of Women’s Day, and he promises to bring back another leg of the show on April 30th, in celebration of Vietnamese Liberation Day. Bringing a traditional folk story to a musical version is not easy, as the Broadway culture in Vietnam is still very new, but the play has received a lot of praises during the last leg in March. Therefore, that’s a good sign for musical plays in Vietnam to have their own stands in the theater section.
The show will return for entertainment on April 30th, we will keep you updated regarding the show time and location.
